It seems like everyone’s talking crap about Scientology these days and one of the church’s most beloved followers wants you to leave
Britney his religion alone.
The release of the HBO documentary Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief and SNL’s recent skit spoofing the religion has the controversial celebrity faith on the tip of everyone’s tongue. But the great John Travolta has come running to its defence saying the church has been “nothing but brilliant for me” in an interview with the Tampa Bay Times.
The documentary alleges that followers are physically and mentally abused, but the Golden Globe winner admits he hasn’t even watched it (and never will). So, why is Travolta even in the conversation? Well, the filmmakers have asked prominent Scientologists (AKA Travolta and Tom Cruise) to rebuke the church, but to no avail.
“I haven’t experienced anything that the hearsay has (claimed), so why would I communicate something that wasn’t true for me?” Travolta said to the Tampa Bay Times. “It wouldn’t make sense, nor would it for Tom, I imagine.”
All right. So the religion did you no harm, John, but you probably shouldn’t speak for Mr. Cruise (even though he’ll probably say the same thing too). Remember the whole “where are Suri and Katie hiding (from the church)?” fiasco, or the fact that some claim Scientology made him break up with Nicole Kidman?
Whether Tommy speaks up about it or not, you have to admit that this church is just chock-full of drama. We won’t lie, we’re waiting for the next shoe to drop.
