How many Canadians does it take to catch a llama? A whole town of them, apparently.

On Tuesday, a llama named Louise daringly broke out of its enclosure at a farm after only being there for one day. The farm’s owner Owen Kaser naturally panicked, and immediately began a 19-hour search for the animal. When that came up empty, he contacted local police, a radio station and even went knocking door-to-door to see if anyone could help.

Turns out, they were happy to.

First, radio station 97.3 took to Facebook to see if any of its listeners noticed anything a little odd:

Have you seen a lost Llama in Quispamsis? Lost from the Chamberlain Road & last seen on Fullyer Drive. This Llama is young & harmless but if you see her call us instead of approaching. 693-9797 Thanks! 🙂 ~Amy

Then, local news stations started hopping on the story:

Before long, comments like these were appearing all over social media: Llama on the lam

With the whole town now searching for the lost animal, a couple of residents decided a description of the culprit might lead to her capture:

Some people even suggested that Louise should be integrated with the town’s official slogan. After all, she helped unite them in such a powerful way.

Morning arrived on Wedneday and still there was no sign of Louise. The family began losing a little bit of hope. But then, suddenly, they received word that the animal had appeared on a neighbour’s lawn. They took immediate action.

Members of the community were able to box Louise in and capture her, and the llama is now back safe and sound in her barn.

“It was interesting, I’ve never chased a llama before,” family friend Sara Bartlett says in the video above. “I just followed what everyone else was doing hoped for the best.”

It looks like that strategy paid off.
