The first trailer for Season 7 of Game of Thrones (premiering Sunday, July 16 on HBO) is finally here, and packs all the action that the showrunners promised was worth the delayed premiere date. With a shortened season of only seven episodes, but a much bigger budget, the upcoming batch of episodes of Game of Thrones promises to be bigger and badder than ever. Judging by the new trailer, winter was worth the wait.

The trailer opens with a voice over from Cersei, who appears to be using her grief over losing her last child Tommen at the end of Season 6 to push her into even more violent efforts to keep her throne. Yeah, more violent than taking out half of King’s Landing with Wildfire. Declaring she will destroy any enemy that stands in her way, Cersei is once again accompanied by her brother and lover Jaime. We assume any efforts to talk sense into his sister will be met with a trademark Cersei glare.

HBO

Cersei notes that they are the only remaining Lannisters, or at least the only Lannisters that count, with the one she’s not counting still keeping company with dragons. It looks like Tyrion has kept his position as Daenerys’ right hand, with the two planning their next strategic move.

HBO

Speaking of Daenerys, she proclaims in the trailer that she was born to the rule the Seven Kingdoms and will, with the Mother of Dragons temporarily occupying a much different version of the Iron Throne.

HBO

It appears that Sansa and Jon’s reunion was short-lived, with Little Finger saying to Sansa “Your brothers and father are gone, yet here you still stand.” Does this mean Jon left Sansa at the Wall while he goes off to fight the White Walkers? Did Sansa leave the Wall of her own accord? Has anyone received a letter from Sam? Just asking.

HBO

In a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shot, Jon grabs Little Finger by the throat in what looks like the crypt where the Mad King is kept. We have a feeling Sansa and Jon’s separation has EVERYTHING to do with Little Finger. How has this dude made it through seven seasons without being killed?

HBO

As for the other remaining Stark daughter, Arya is on her own once again, but with winter finally here, it’s difficult to tell exactly where she is now, but it does appear she’s made her way to the North. Will this finally be the season for a full Stark family reunion? No sign of Bran in the new trailer, so we’ll have to wait and see. Or have a vision.

HBO

There are a few shots of GoT’s famous sexy scenes, including a quick glimpse of Missandei and Grey Worm finally getting together. These two deserve some happiness. One hook up we didn’t expect to see was Ellaria Sand and and Yara Greyjoy. We don’t know what’s going on in this scene, but we’re pretty sure Yara is being used.

HBO

Of course, there’s no shortage of battle scenes. There are battles by the Dothraki in fields.

HBO

There are battles on ships, possibly the ship that we last saw Daenerys and Tyrion on in Season 6.

HBO

There are battles in castles.

HBO

There are battles with dragons.

HBO

And you better believe there are going to be battles with White Walkers.
