Now here’s a trick your dog probably can’t do.
A black Labrador named Eclipse has somehow trained itself to ride the bus — alone. She literally gets on, grabs a seat next to someone, watches for her stop and then gets off once the bus rolls up to her favourite dog park.
The origins of this dog’s unique talent can all be traced back to her determination and desire to get to that park.
“She’s been urbanized,” owner Jeff Young says in the video above. “So she’s a bus-riding, sidewalk-walking dog.”
“Urbanized” is a bit of an understatement. For years, Eclipse and her owner have routinely taken the bus to that same dog park so she could play fetch, smell butts and do all the other things that dogs like to do. In fact, Eclipse enjoyed it so much, she eventually figured out how to get there by herself through all the repetition.
See, Young likes to have a quick cigarette break at the bus stop before hopping on for the journey. But recently, if he’s not done smoking by the time that ride pulls up, Eclipse gets on without him. Young, meanwhile, catches the next bus over.
As for the clueless passengers who randomly see a dog getting on the bus? They love seeing the canine commuter.
“She sits here just like a person does,” one bus rider said. “She’s a person. And all the bus drivers know her.”
Looks like someone’s getting a treat.
