The host for the 2019 MTV VMAs has been announced and no one is more surprised by the pairing than the host himself. For the first time, comedian Sebastian Maniscalco is set to entertain Generation Z when he takes on the live MTV crowd at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Maniscalco made the announcement while appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night, a fitting location considering Fallon hosted the award show back in 2002. “I’m so excited,” said Maniscalco. “I think this is going to be fun because MTV wants kind of an unfiltered look at the VMAs through my eyes.”
MTV also shared the news on social media, posting a fun teaser video of the comedian and actor preparing for his big hosting gig. It appears as though Maniscalco has a lot of work to do when it comes to learning who currently sits at the top of the music charts. Actually, he needs to cover the past 30 years, but 2019 is a good place to start.

So, who is Sebastian Maniscalco? He’s a comedian, author and actor who has been killing it on stage and screen for years.
The Chicago native was named Billboard’s Comedian of the Year in 2018, the same year Maniscalco played five shows at New York’s Radio City Music Hall and released his memoir Stay Hungry, later dropping a Netflix special under the same name in January 2019.
The triple-threat made Forbes’ list of the world’s highest paid comedians in 2017 and 2018, thanks in large part to his hugely successful specials, including Sebastian Maniscalco: Why Would You Do That?, which is streaming now on Crave. Maniscalco will spend the second half of 2019 touring his “You Bother Me” show throughout North America.
As an actor, Maniscalco has appeared in the 2018 Oscar-winning film Green Book and is set to star opposite Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci in the upcoming Martin Scorsese-directed Netflix film The Irishman. Two films that are sure to be hits with the Millennial and younger generations.
And before you start to question why MTV would hire a host that seems to have a much older demographic than the typical VMA viewer, let us inform you that not only is Sebastian Maniscalco on Twitter and Instagram, he also has a podcast. The kids love podcasts. And in case that’s not enough, he does a great bit on Chipotle. Kids love Chipotle!
