Ed Sheeran is celebrating the release of his latest album with a new video. The English singer released his fourth studio album at midnight, with No.6 Collaborations featuring some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Camila Cabello, Cardi B, Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber and more. Sheeran has been rolling out videos in the lead up to the album, with the visual accompaniment for the Travis Scott-track “Antisocial” arriving Friday morning and living up to its ‘bonkers’ description.
Sheeran and Scott take on famous film scenes in their new collaboration, paying homage to Pulp Fiction, Snatch, Edward Scissorhands, The Martian, The Birds, and more. The wig-filled, rapid-fire new video has Sheeran teaming up with longtime directing partner Dave Meyers, who included one scene offering a glimpse into what his life could have been like had Sheeran not had a successful career in music. In Sheeran’s world, no stadium tours means an office love affair with a robot and a terrible hairstyle. Really, really terrible.
“Antisocial” is the latest video from Sheeran’s new album, with the singer having previously released the green-screen filled “I Don’t Care” with Bieber, the ode to the average Joe with Khalid in “Beautiful People,” and the gender-swapping rock and roll clip for “Blow” with Bruno Mars and Chris Stapleton.
Sheeran sat down with radio host Charlamagne the God this week to discuss No. 6 Collaborations, touching on his lyrics about marriage and confirming that he and longtime girlfriend Cherry Seaborn did tie the knot back in December 2018.
Referring to the lyrics from “Remember The Name” featuring Eminem and 50 Cent, which includes Sheeran’s line “Watch how the lyrics in the songs might get twisted / My wife wears red, but looks better without the lipstick,” the singer told Charlamagne that he wrote the song knowing the pair would be married before the album dropped. “It was actually before me and Cherry got married and I knew that we’d be married by the point that the song came out,” said Sheeran. “[I thought] Someone’s gonna hear that and be like, ‘Oh, they’re married!’ I didn’t know how that would be construed, but obviously it’s already come out.”
Sheeran obviously found the right partner in Seaborn, with his new wife suggesting that Sheeran work with Bieber on “I Don’t Care.”
“Bieber just got married. I’d just got married. That song is about being at an industry event with the woman you love, or the person you love, and kind of being like, ‘F— this, let’s just have fun ourselves,’” said Sheeran. “It was actually Cherry’s idea, because she was like, ‘Oh, why don’t you get Bieber? Like, he’d be perfect for this … it just fits.’”
In addition to the new videos, Sheeran is also celebrating the release of the new album with pop-up shops around the world. The solo Canadian shop is located in Toronto and is open on July 12 and 13, featuring exclusive merchandise while supplies last.
