It feels like you can’t go anywhere (or look at any menu) without hearing about gluten-free this and gluten-free that. Over the last couple of years gluten-free diets have become the go-to, and even outliers like your mother are considering adopting it.

The alleged benefits of going gluten-free include increased energy — because your body isn’t spending as much of it trying to digest gluten — and the ingestion of healthier, non-refined, non-“produced” food, which then leads to higher nutrition and better health overall.

So when BuzzFeed put four people on a month-long gluten-free diet, the participants were excited. Unfortunately, as the weeks went on, the outcomes weren’t quite as earth-shattering as they’d expected.

A sample quote of how things went: “I haven’t seen my energy level change, but I’ve definitely felt my anger and frustration levels change.”

The results are definitely mixed, with one out of the four being satisfied; the rest, well, check it out for yourself in the video, above.
