It was in 2014 that Selena Gomez first sought treatment, after she was diagnosed with lupus. Two years later, Gomez took another break, escaping the public eye to manage her “anxiety, panic attacks and depression” and focus on her health and happiness. Those two instances of taking time away to deal with things did her good. Selena came back refreshed and refueled, sure, but she was also a little different. More mature and maybe acknowledging that she needed to live better. She reset her priorities, figured out what she needed to work on, and things seemed to be going fine.

But things weren’t going as swimmingly as we all thought. Gomez has been having a tough time as of late. She was hospitalized twice within the last few weeks, both times for “an alarmingly low white blood cell count,” TMZ reports. It was during her second visit, however, that things took a turn. The singer-actress suffered a “meltdown” and “freaked out,” even trying to rip the IVs out of her arm. That was her tipping point, it seemed. She recognized enough was enough and is seeking treatment once again.

“She has had a tough few weeks and the panic attack in the hospital was the tipping point,” a source told People. “She realized she needed to seek additional help for her ongoing emotional issues. She’s surrounded by close family and has a lot of support. She’s doing better now and is seeking treatment on the East Coast.”

According to TMZ, Gomez is now receiving dialectical behaviour therapy as part of her treatment, which she has received in the past.

The news comes two weeks after Selena announced that she was taking another break from social media.

Good for her for acknowledging that she needs help and that she isn’t afraid to ask for it. It also helps that Selena has loads of support from family and friends, which is a big part of the battle. And the insider says Gomez is already doing better so that’s great news. As long as she stays with it, we can’t help but feel hopeful. Get well soon, Selena.
