Selena Gomez has been the most followed person on Instagram for the past two years, but the singer has now been surpassed by professional soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo. People must really like pictures of babies and chiseled thighs.

Both celebs still boast 144 million followers, but on Monday, Ronaldo’s number jumped up a few thousand, earning him the title of most followed person on Instagram. It’s not a label that comes with a cash prize, unless you count sponsorship deals with Armani, Sleepscore, and Herbal Life a cash prize, which we do.

Gomez has a long on-and-off history with social media, using Instagram to share her struggles with her physical and mental health and posting inspirational messages for her millions of fans, while also citing the platform as a detriment to her well-being. On September 23, Gomez posted a picture of herself smiling and captioned the photo with an update for her followers. “Taking a social media break. Again. As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given,” wrote Gomez. “Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember- negative comments can hurt anybody’s feelings. Obvi.”

The post came a few weeks before news broke that Gomez had voluntarily checked into a mental health facility following a medical crisis, with the Disney star receiving dialectical behaviour therapy.

We have a feeling Gomez won’t be bothered by her new position as the second most followed person on Instagram, because frankly 144 million is still a whole lotta eyeballs.

If you’re one of the few people not already following Cristiano Ronaldo, you may want to start. The Portuguese soccer player keeps his social media updated with pictures that have something for everyone.

There are the super cute family pics with his girlfriend Georgina Rodríguez and his four children, including 8-year-old Cristiano Jr., twins Eva and Mateo, and daughter Alana.

Ronaldo also uses his elevated platform for good, posting about the Syrian refugee crisis, the Save the Children charity, and working as a spokesman for blood donation, often encouraging his 144 million followers to donate.
