We all have our go-to beauty products, but there are some tried and true ingredients from around the world that could really shake up your beauty routine!

The Kit’s digital editor Caitlin Kenny highlights some of her top products from across the globe.

bum-bum-cream.jpg
The company’s products are formulated in the US, but the entire line contains plant-based ingredients straight from the Amazon: caffeine-rich Guaraná, which promotes circulation; Cupuaçu Butter for elasticity; and the antioxidant superfruit Açai. And this product’s name is what it means: This is indeed a moisturizer for your buttox, which is fitting perhaps, given that Brazil is the birthplace of the itsy-bitsy ruched bikini bottom.

skyn-iceland.jpg
SKYN was founded by a beauty exec who – thanks to chronic stress – wound up with angry skin and a weakened immune system. On a vacation in Iceland, she discovered unique ingredients that help tackle signs of stress on the skin. For example, the entire range contains glacial water, which helps skin reach a balanced pH, and antioxidant seed oils from arctic cloudberry and red cranberry. This two-step mask also includes ice age black mud to help cell turnover and blue clay to draw out impurities. You apply the clay all over your face first and then layer the gel on top and massage so that it creates a warming foam. After 10 minutes, you wash it off for refreshed skin that feels squeaky clean and bright.

grape-water.jpg
Caudalie is a French beauty brand centred around a star ingredient: grapes from the country’s Bordeaux wine region. The products use all parts of the plant: grape extract moisturizes skin; resveratrol from the vines helps firm; and polyphenols from the seeds are potent antioxidants. This mist is one of Caudalie’s top sellers. It’s made of 100 percent grape water, which is isolated from the pressed grape juice by evaporation. It can be used as a toner and has been proven to boost skin’s hydration and also to soothe dry, sensitive skin.

cleansing-balm-(1).jpg
In Budapest, there are hundreds of thermal baths that date back to the 1500s.They’re filled with water that’s packed with minerals proven to be beneficial for the skin, and overall health. Every product from Omorovicza contains a concentrate made of the healing waters, and this cleanser also includes the black Hungarian moor mud, which is loaded with calcium and magnesium. The formula is a balm, so it’s a nice, thick formula that you massage onto dry skin, then remove with the provided towel – a splash of water won’t do the trick. You can use it every day as a one-step wash, as it purifies skin and removes makeup.

korres-greek-yogurt.jpg
Korres is an apothecary-inspired brand that is all made in Greece. It blends natural ingredients native to the country with medicinal herbs and lab-tested actives. We all know what a great source of protein Greek yogurt is for our bodies, but did you know it has the same benefits for skin too? This moisturizer contains 26 percent Greek yogurt proteins to help strengthen skin. You can use this cream before bed to help repair skin as you sleep, but it also works well under makeup to help smooth skin’s texture and plump up any fine lines.

amore-pacific-compact.jpg
So many of the most exciting beauty products lately have come from Korea, and AmorePacific is one of the country’s major brands. Each product contains botanicals harvested in Korea and neighbouring Asian countries. The brand even has its own green-tea fields, where the potent ingredient is hand-harvested. This colour-correcting cushion compact is basically a handy case that contains a little pad, or “cushion,” inside that is soaked with foundation. It provides dewy, colour-correcting coverage and is great for touch-ups on the go, plus this one contains bamboo sap, which is super hydrating, and the brand’s signature green tea for antioxidant protection. Plus, this formula has SPF 50+!

lanolips.jpg
Lano is a new Australian brand in Canada. Its founder spent much of her childhood at her grandparent’s sheep farm in the south of Australia, and decided to incorporate it into skincare as an adult when she was travelling a lot and found her lips drying out on flights. Lano gets its name from its star ingredient: lanolin, the fatty substance taken from freshly shorn sheep’s wool (don’t worry; it’s collected ethically and refined so that it’s medical grade). The range includes hand and body creams as well, but these tinted lip balms are fabulous. They deliver a ton of hydration with just a hint of colour – plus, they’re 99 percent natural.
