Shawn Mendes may not be attending the royal wedding this weekend, but he's already had his chance to congratulate Prince Harry and Meghan Markle -- and apparently messed it up.

"This is going to be my biggest regret forever," the 19-year-old Canadian singer tells Ellen DeGeneres on Thursday's episode of her talk show.

Shawn performed at Her Majesty's 92nd birthday celebration in London in April, but couldn't quite muster up the courage to chat with the engaged couple.

"I was walking down the halls and I see them in one room, and they're just talking," he tells Ellen. "And I walked in with this confidence and the second they kind of felt me coming, I just turned around and my body went numb and I was like I can't do it, I can't do it."

By now Shawn's had countless celeb encounters as he's toured the world and hit the awards show circuits. But apparently none have compared to royalty.

"I've never been so starstruck like that," he says. "I walked in the room and I didn't stop, it was like one flow of motion."

And he didn't fare much better when he was waiting backstage alongside the queen herself.

"I'm in this backstage area before you go onstage and I'm standing there waiting to go onstage and the queen just walks up next to me, and I'm looking at her, and you can't say anything, you're not allowed to speak to her unless she speaks to you first, so it was like 10 minutes of awkward silence between me and the queen," he says. "She didn't look at at me at all, I looked over a couple times, and I was like I probably shouldn't be looking. it was super weird."

The Ellen DeGeneres Show airs weekdays at 4 p.m. ET on CTV.
