Remember that one time Simon Cowell claimed he had found the next Taylor Swift on America’s Got Talent? If there’s anything we trust Simon Cowell with, it’s recognizing talent, and this girl is a doozy. Grace VanderWaal‘s got the whole package: she’s adorable, her voice sounds like it should be coming out of some sort of celestial being, she plays the ukelele and she even writes her own music. Did we mention this little performer is only 12-years-old? How can there be so much talent in that tiny body? We don’t know, but we just want her to get her own record deal already.
In June, Grace wowed the audience and all four judges with an original song, ‘I Don’t Know My Name’ (which is always risky). She got the golden buzzer from Howie Mandel and the compliment of all compliments from Simon Cowell–that she just might be the next Taylor Swift. Getting the golden buzzer means that Grace was sent straight to the quarter-finals of the competition so we hadn’t seen her since her audition. Until now.
Grace came back to AGT to wow once again with another original, ‘Beautiful Thing.’ Not only is her voice amazing, but this girl has the maturity of someone who has been writing music for decades. She hasn’t even been alive for decades! All we want is a full album with bonus tracks and a few singles, is that too much to ask?
This girl is only 12 and her original music already sounds like she should be best friends with Adele and Ed Sheeran (and then the trio could write songs about their fabulous friendship). Just imagine what more life experience could inspire for someone with that kind of writing talent.
We’re super excited about what this kid will accomplish after the show. Even if she doesn’t win, she’s certainly got years and years of music career ahead of her. It’s not like Simon Cowell is going to leave The Next Taylor Swift out in the cold.
Now, relive Grace’s audition because it’s still amazing:
