We thoroughly research all the products we feature, and we honestly think they’re great. But just so you know, things you buy from links on this page may earn us a commission. All prices were accurate at publish time.

Let’s be honest – most of us spend more time in the office than we do at home. And between, y’know, actual work, and things to take care of at home, that doesn’t always leave much room in between to get the body moving. And with how much most of us sit all day long… we could really use the workout. Luckily, with the help of a few nifty gadgets and tools, there’s a way to keep yourself in tip-top shape. Check out a few of our faves, that help keep us moving and active both at home and at work…

1. MINI EXERCISE BIKE

This mini pedal bike is as versatile as it is functional. It apparently increases circulation, and the option to pedal either your arms or legs means you can keep it discreetly tucked away, or, displayed proudly on your desk for a break from typing. Or if at home, you can easily pedal away whilst eating dinner, watching Netflix, or just chatting to your BFF on the phone. Each pedal is non-slip, with molded finger/toe grips, and adjustable toe loops for maximum efficiency and comfort. And even if you’re a clutterbug, at just over a foot wide and tall, it’s sure to fit somewhere at home or at work.

2. BALANCE BALL CHAIR

If you’ve never done any deep core work, this might be one to work your way up to, but your spine will surely thank you for using this alternative to a not typically posture friendly traditional chair. This could be used at work or home, whilst you’re firing off some emails or simply watching Netflix, but best to get comfy with it before using at the office (ie. in front of other people who you don’t want to fall over in front of). The standard model is ideally for those 5’ to 5’ 11”, but leg extenders for taller peeps are available. It’s a slightly bigger investment price-wise, but what you lose in dollars you might just gain in stability.

3. AB ROLLER WHEEL

Best used on the floor, this roller wheel is probably best suited to home rather than the office (depending on your office, of course), and will have your deep oblique muscles doing the heavy lifting, so to speak. It’s helpfully non-slip, can take up to 200kg of body weight, and will also have your arms, shoulders, and core waking up big-time. And depending how you want to use it, it’ll also engage your hips and thighs for a thorough full-body workout. It also comes with a handy knee pad for that floor-work.

4. STANDING BALANCE DISK

For a fun but serious testing of your balance, this standing disc will have you feeling like you’re on an airborne skateboard. It could easily be used at a standing work desk, or simply when you’re peeling the vegetables or watching TV at home. Plus, you can make use of it in your yoga or Pilates routine. It’s not exactly easy to stay upright, but it will have you engaging muscles you didn’t even know were there. And with hundreds of positive Amazon reviews, it seems like people are getting their money’s worth.

5. RESISTANCE BANDS

Sometimes the low-tech option will do, with the simple resistance of a Theraband doing wonders for toning, slowly building muscle, and injury recovery. Using your own body weight as resistance, these bands will gently build muscle over time. And you can use them around your calves, knees, arms, elbows, fingers – almost anywhere you can think of. Versatile, affordable, and suitable for most, no matter your current fitness levels.

6. ACUPRESSURE MASSAGE BALL

Okay, so these aren’t for working out per se, but for taking care of your muscles between workouts or just in general, these massage balls will do wonders. Designed for use on specific trigger points (think arches of the feet, shoulders, etc) these massage balls are made with a specially formulated density to work deeply into the fascia (connective tissue), for deep physical release and improved blood flow. They’re small and portable (meaning you can keep them in your bag for use on-the-go), eco-friendly, and come with a lifetime warranty. And if the reviews are anything to go by, this might be the best 11 bucks you ever spend.
