We thoroughly research all the products we feature, and we honestly think they’re great. But just so you know, things you buy from links on this page may earn us a commission. All prices were accurate at publish time.

For most of us, kitchen appliances are kept on a need-to-have basis, whether that’s because of limited countertop space, or the effort required to use, clean and maintain them. But a few smart purchases are totally worth the real estate, saving on manual labour and taking your kitchen treats from standard-fare to freaking delicious. Read on for our picks so wondrous for your kitchen and your life, you’ll wonder how you lived without them.

1. Philips Airfryer

An air fryer cooks food by circulating hot air, creating a nice crispy finish, but with significantly less fat and fewer calories than a regular deep fryer. In fact, this model boasts several cook settings, meaning you can fry, bake, roast, and grill your food (not at the same time, but still, not too shabby). Plus, the parts are dishwasher-safe, to help ease off on lingering smells you might get from a regular fryer.

Philips Digital Airfyer, $199 at Amazon.

2. Vitamix

We’ve all got that one friend who swears by their magical blender. And when it comes to full range, a Vitamix is the king of the kingdom. A multi-purpose item functioning as a blender, mixer, and food processor all in one, you can use it to make nut milks from scratch, hummus, smoothies, soups, ice creams, sorbets… and even your own flour, for the bakers out there. Sure, it is a little bulky (not to mention, pricey), but it could just save you the space and dollars by meeting several appliance needs in one item. And even better? Put in a little warm water and soap, stick on the blend setting, and it’ll clean itself.

Vitamix Explorian Blender, $390 at Amazon.

Whether you’re very precise with your baking, watching your portion sizes, or just really into meal prep, this digital food scale might be the one to help take your sense of accuracy in your kitchen to the next level. The scale will measure accurately to the nearest decimal point, weigh liquids as well as solids, and you can even switch between metric and imperial settings with ease.

Boasting a remarkable 12 built-in settings and seven preset temperatures, this pressure cooker will help you cook anything from rice, porridge and eggs, to cake, soups, and stews, as well as steam or sauté your veggies. It’ll also double as a slow-cooker. With a 6-quart pot size, it’s not small, but it should see you through years of cooking meals both large and small.

5. KitchenAid Mixer

This is the appliance most bakers swear by for next-level kneading and whisking. It’s sure to give your eggs, meringues, creams (and buttercreams) a professional finish, not to mention save you some serious elbow grease. Okay, it is essentially a really fancy whisk, but when it comes to making dough, aeration can make all the difference. And with the right attachment, you can fashion this into a slicer, spiralizer, food grinder, fresh pasta roller, and ice cream maker. Plus, it’s not exactly an eyesore. We can’t think of a reason not to have this in our kitchen.

KitchenAid Artisan 5-Quart Stand Mixer, $429 at Amazon.

6. Baby Brezza

As most exhausted new parents will tell you, preparing baby milk is no joke. But this appliance minimizes the manual labour involved in preparing bottles of formula milk, eliminating the need for measuring and mixing. It will work with your existing bottles, and you can select the volume to prepare. It even heats the water to baby temperature, which is ideal for feeding your little one. Even if you have no need for this in your own home, it’s not a bad gift idea.

Baby Brezza Formula Pro, $140 at Amazon.
