The launch of Sonos One last year made significant waves in the world of wireless streaming. Finally, a compact smart speaker with deep, rich sound quality — not too surprising, considering Sonos has been in the business of speakers since 2002. Apart from its high-quality sound, Sonos One also has built-in Amazon Alexa AI, meaning you can command your speaker to play all your favourite songs, simply by using your voice. Unfortunately, Alexa wasn’t available in Canada when the Sonos One first launched — that is, until now. Finally, us Canadians can now say, “Alexa, play Finesse by Cardi B and Bruno Mars” any time we want.

What else can the Sonos One do? You can check the news, traffic, turn your lights on and off, ask for recipes and more — Alexa is continually updating with new features and skills. And unlike some of its other smart speaker competitors, the Sonos can play music from multiple sources, be it Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, internet radio and 80 other streaming services globally. I asked Alexa to play my favourite podcast, and like magic, Reply All was keeping me company while cooking dinner. You can also connect wirelessly with any other Sonos Home Sound System speakers, giving you the ability to play music in any or every room in your home.
