If someone were to ask you what images come to mind while listening to the iconic, bass-driven Seinfeld theme song, what would you say? George, Kramer, Jerry and Elaine bantering at their table in Monk’s coffee shop? Perhaps the foursome painfully waiting for a table at a Chinese food restaurant? Maybe even the gang arguing about the rules to a certain “contest” at Jerry’s apartment. But you’d never picture a dimly lit chillwave club, right? Until now.
In a music era where computer-made tunes dominate mainstream pop airwaves, even Seinfeld‘s classic ’90’s theme song is feeling the effects. A fan on Soundcloud with the username /\belard decided to take the classic bass ditty, and turn it into a modern EDM chillwave tune. The scary part is that it’s actually pretty darn good.
Although many fans may be upset and dismissive at the idea of some kid tainting one of the most classic TV theme songs of all time by turning it into an EDM jam, the truth is he did a pretty great job. The original theme is still heavily present, just funked up to the max, with some smooth chilled out groove. Trust us, give it a listen.
Sidenote: Did you know that the original Seinfeld theme song wasn’t actually played on bass guitar? The composer Jonathan Wolff actually did it all on synthesizer. No way, right?
