The Spice Girls are back and are trying to salvage what’s left of 2016 with the release of their new track. Now, remember, it’s not a full reunion; Victoria Beckham and Melanie Chisholm are out and Geri Horner (formerly Halliwell), Emma Bunton and Mel B are still in, and the latter three have been working together in the studio for months. Perhaps because five became three, rumours of a 20th anniversary reunion have also come and gone but, hey, at least we’ve got their new pop tune to satisfy our craving for something spicy.

“Song For Her” was actually a track GEM was messing about with in the summer but Bunton claimed it wasn’t a single and more about them being back together and “having fun in the studio.” So maybe this won’t be their first official release but, really, aren’t we just glad they’re attempting a comeback?

Um. Maybe not. Reviews across social media are mixed and while admittedly it’s no “Wannabe” or “Say You’ll Be There” or even “Viva Forever,” it’s not dreadful either. “Song For Her” is meant to be another girl power track, which is consistent with the group and something to applaud, but it’s still lacking something. Hmm, maybe GEM needs the other two?
