Let us go on record to say that 2020 is the year of the cinematic comeback. Perhaps we’re all feeling a bit nostalgic from the many (emphasis on many) hours spent haplessly glued to our televisions and couches but, lately, it seems everything that once struck a chord with viewers is slated for an epic return. As it stands, no movie or TV show is safe from talks of a reboot or cast reunion and, surely, Marvel’s ever-imposing list of upcoming projects is no exception.

Over the years, Peter Parker has accumulated a loyal legion of fans and now, as we eagerly await the release of Spider-Man 3, we’ve been given an exciting bit of news: everyone is coming back. Literally, everyone.

The Amazing Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield? Yep. Jamie Foxx as Electro? Yep. Doctor Strange? Yep. Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus? Confirmed. Kirsten Dunst as MJ? Also confirmed. Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker? In negotiations. Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy? Also in negotiations. I mean, really, why enlist a new cast of characters when you can reunite the crew? As they say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it…

While these recent announcements are all worthy of online buzz, the confirmation of Doc Ock’s return to the franchise has fans worked into a frenzy. This should come as no surprise really, as the ‘eight-limbed’ scientist is hailed by many as the best villain to face off against Peter Parker. And, naturally, this fuels fan suspicion that Spider-Man 3 might take the form of a live action Spider-Verse movie.

Of course, Marvel will have plenty of explaining to do with this list of characters. In the meantime, there are no shortage of fan theories. You could almost say their spidey senses are tingling… (sorry, we had to).

As for the creative team behind this latest instalment, Jon Watts is back to direct, and Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Zendaya, and Marisa Tomei will also return. Spider-Man 3 is slated to hit theatres on Dec.17th, 2021.
