Egale Canada is doing amazing work, and Helen Kennedy, Executive Director of Egale Canada, is here to talk about it. We talk to Helen about her efforts to support the LGBTQ2 community and the work that’s being done through Egale Canada to improve the lives of the members of the LGBTQ2 community.
A politician, social activist, and the Executive Director of Egale Canada, Kennedy worked on the new Equality coin, which is already circulating, that combines the words “Equality-Egalité” and honours LGBTQ2 Canadians and their allies who advocated for equal rights. Egale Canada’s work includes lobbying for more equitable laws for LGBTQ2 people, intervening in legal cases that affect human rights and equality, and increasing public education and awareness by providing information to individuals, groups, and media. Egale has over 3,300 members including people in every province and territory of Canada.

We’ve teamed up with the Royal Canadian Mint to highlight members of the LGBTQ2 community who have made a difference in the past five decades. In the video clip above, we take a look back at a few trailblazers who fought for equality in those early days and who have since passed on.
