Dear Mrs. Bald Eagle,
For 13 years you flew by my side. Our love was like no other. Soaring above our beloved Strathcona Park (in Vancouver, B.C.) it felt like nothing could come between us–except the wind, of course. But then, one day I did lose you…or did you lose me? It’s all a haze, to be honest. All I want is to have you back in the nest we built together. We raised many a chick in it, but now I’m the only one who resides in this empty collection of twigs and branches.
I’m sorry I left you. I promise it wasn’t out of spite. On my way to find some flowers for our anniversary (yes, I remembered) I struck a power line and lost my ability to fly. I couldn’t find you and had to resort to asking those animals with opposable thumbs for help. It’s a good thing I did because it turns out I was badly injured and needed constant care and attention for three months.
They say I made a remarkable recovery–it’s ’cause you were my motivation. Alas, you’re no where to be found. Mrs, Bald Eagle, please come find me. Without you I am nothing, you know we’re mates for life, right?
I long to wrap my wings around you. Come find me in our nest. I do circle around the park at night, in the hopes of spotting you so if I’m not in the nest, please just wait for me.
Mr. Bald Eagle of Strathcona Park
p.s. the animals with disposable thumbs even featured me in a “love is in the air” segment, take a look at the video above.
