From Coachella boho-chic to Hollywood red-carpet glam, actress Kate Bosworth is almost as well known for her on-point fashion as she is for her roles in Blue Crush and Superman Returns.
Her latest style tip? The fashion app Style Thief. Sort of like a Shazam for style, the app allows you to snap pics of a piece of clothing, then have Style Thief identify it or a similar look from its database of 300+ retailers including Lord & Taylor, Forever 21 and Saks Fifth Avenue. And yes, the Los Angeles-based app works in Canada!
Bosworth, who says she covets the style of Cate Blanchett, Alexa Chung and Julianne Moore, even used Style Thief to choose her dress for the app’s swanky launch at L.A.’s iconic Chateau Marmont. She saw a photo of a red dress, snapped a pic with her phone, then found the Valentino piece on Net-A-Porter. The app can also be used to track down ensembles seen in TV and movies.
While not the first app to identify apparel (the software, designed by Cortexica, is also used by similar apps such as PopSugar’s ShopStyle and Trendabl), Style Thief just might be the easiest. You can sort finds by price and click right through to purchase.
Besides making fashion stalker’s dreams come true, Bosworth has two new films coming up next year: the drama Still Alice opposite Julianne Moore and Kristen Stewart and the supernatural horror Somnia. Plus, she’s working on a clothing line with a mystery L.A.-based label that will launch in Spring 2015.
In the meantime, the Style Thief app is available on iTunes for iPhone, with an Android app to follow.
