Stephen Colbert is just a few months away from making his late night talk show debut when he takes over as the new host of The Late Show. And although he should probably be enjoying a poolside, mojito-filled summer vacation before he starts his new job, he sure seems to be getting antsy.

To help promote his sweet new gig, Colbert has been busy posting viral videos to get us fans excited. Last week we saw him shave his “Colbeard,” introduce his new bandleader and reveal an uncanny ability to eat a giant stack of beignets. This week he has unveiled a candid performance of his new, self-penned Late Show theme song.

Allegedly composing with the help of Oxycontin (according to his in-depth office whiteboard), Colbert ever-so-slightly tickles the ivory on a desk keyboard with lyrics like “What time is it, it’s late. What show is it, it’s show.”

Sure, he might need a little help with rhyming, singing, and the arrangement as a whole, but it’s a pretty decent first attempt at a new theme, wouldn’t you say?

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert premieres on Tuesday, September 8th.
