Bindi Irwin may only be 21, but she’s gone through quite a lot in such a short time. At just 8 years old she lost her father, ‘The Crocodile Hunter’ Steve Irwin, but would eventually follow in his footsteps by becoming a wildlife conservationist. Now, she has another new title to get used to: fiancée. That’s right, Bindi and her longtime boyfriend, Chandler Powell, are engaged.

Irwin shared the news on social media rather quickly, posting two adorable photos of herself and Powell. In the first snap, Bindi shared a closeup of her gorgeous engagement ring, while the other shows Irwin kicking up on leg in celebration as she embraces her future husband. She revealed in her caption that Chandler popped the question on her birthday, July 24, and she “said ‘yes’ and ‘forever’ to the love of my life.” Bindi added that it was nearly six years ago that “I fell in love with you and every day since has been a whirlwind of adventure and true happiness. I’m so looking forward to spending our forever together as your wife. Here’s to a lifetime of friendship, purpose and unconditional love. Now let’s get married already!” It was just over a year ago that Bindi told Us Weekly that she and Chandler weren’t in any rush to get married, and were just living in the now as they travel the world, work with animals, and follow their passion for conservation. Looks like they’re now ready for the next phase of their adorable, adventurous lives.

“I am overjoyed to be sharing the news that Chandler and I are engaged! This has been the most special day celebrating my 21st birthday,” she said in a statement to People. “I’ve met my soulmate and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with Chandler. We’ve been together for nearly 6 years now and he’s my happily ever after.”

Powell, a former professional wakeboarder, added that the engagement was “the most perfect and beautiful day of my life,” then went on to reveal how the moment went down. “After Bindi’s birthday celebration at Australia Zoo, we had a photoshoot organized to celebrate her turning 21. Just before we started the shoot, I took her to a special part of Australia Zoo to ask the girl of my dreams to become my wife. These past five years together have been the best of my life and we look forward to a lifetime of magical moments to come.”

Bindi’s brother, Robert Irwin, also took to Instagram to celebrate the joyous news.

And because it was a family affair, their mother, Terri Irwin, was also there and tweeted her approval of the impending union.

Bindi and Chandler first met in 2013 during a trip to the zoo and began dating shortly after. Congrats to the happy couple!
