A stingray in Toronto wasn’t about to let some doting couple steal its thunder, no matter what they were doing.

Reddit user McYay’s boyfriend recently took her to Ripley’s Aquarium, where he was planning a surprise proposal for her (of course, all she knew at the time was that they were both going to watch a stingray-themed show).

“We were watching the stingray feeding and at the end of the ‘Ray bay’ show the host asked for 2 volunteers to play a game and they picked us to go up…which I thought was weird because it was Family Day (think 1000 children in the place),” McYay wrote on Reddit. “The game is for him to try describing a stingray and for me to try to guess what type.”

While her boyfriend took his best stab at describing a certain kind of stingray, a diver swooped down in the tank behind them with a sign that read “Will you marry me?”

“As he is describing to me ‘it has a tail’ and ‘it’s grey’,” she wrote. “I’m thinking ‘I am so embarrassed and this is definitely some sort of prank on me because people in the audience are giggling and gasping.'”

When she finally offered an answer, the aquarium presenter told her to turn around and see the stingray for herself. And, well, let’s just say she couldn’t miss it.

The stingray managed to photobomb literally every image they took.

It even brought some friends along for the last one:

The couple, however, took the whole thing in stride.

“[I obviously spent] the next 10 minutes crying and laughing at the same time,” McYay wrote.

For its part, Ripley’s Aquarium later tweeted out a response on behalf of the stingray:

And for the record, this is far from the first time stingrays have showed off their photobombing prowess. That’s why you’re probably better off just leaving them in the ocean.
