Hold on to your Valyrian steel, Game of Thrones fans! As if we didn’t have enough to look forward to already when the HBO series returns early next year, we can now almost certainly confirm that one fan-favourite character is coming back.
Sadly, we’re not talking about Jon Snow (Kit Harington), although we have our own theories as to why that character is coming back. We’re talking about Rory McCann, a.k.a. Sandor Clegane, a.k.a. The Hound.
If you remember, we last saw The Hound at the bottom of a desolate hill, where he had been betrayed by his travelling companion Arya (Maisie Williams) and beaten very, very badly by Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie). We had assumed that the character who had been left for dead was, well, dead, since he didn’t appear in the fifth season. But now, heading into the sixth chapter of the Song of Ice and Fire, we remember what they say about the word “assume.”
Reports from Belfast and the Watchers on the Wall confirm that McCann is probably back in action, as he was spotted at a hotel often used by cast members while filming. Sure, he could be visiting, but with nothing else seemingly going on with the actor’s resume lately, we’re going to be holding our breath for an epic Hound reappearance.
He won’t be the only character back in Season 6, either. Osha (Natalie Tena) and Rickon (Art Parkinson) have been spotted, which hopefully means that Brandon Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright), who was also absent last season, will return with his crow eye as well.
Game of Thrones returns this Spring to HBO Canada.
