In the past, Abercrombie & Fitch has relied on nudity and youthful, All-American – and mostly white – joie de vivre. But it seems things are changing at the company, since they’ve tapped Neelam Gill to be the new face of the company.
She’s breaking barriers, but not just because she’s a South Asian face for a company that has traditionally identified as a refuge for aspiring Cape Cod-ers who may or may not be into wearing multiple, popped collar golf shirts.
Here’s what’s interesting about Gill:
She’s an anti-bullying activist
She’s only been updating her YouTube channel regularly for one month, and already she’s really focused on online racism, bullying and depression.
She revolutionized Burberry’s image
Gill was the first Indian model to ever appear in an ad for the uber-traditional Burberry, and she was hand-picked by the designer Christopher Bailey.
She’s rumoured to be dating Zayn Malik
And yet, she’s all “nah, sorry” and totally content with being #teamsingle.
Kanye is into her
Professionally speaking, she was one of the models for Yeezy Season One.
So, yeah, she’s more than just a pretty face.
