Tyra Banks and her boyfriend, Norwegian photographer Erik Asla, are parents! The couple, who have been dating for a couple of years, welcomed son York via surrogate. Tyra announced the wonderful news on Instagram in a lovely and fiercely touching way.
The best present we worked and prayed so hard for is finally here. He’s got my fingers and big eyes and his daddy Erik’s mouth and chin. As we thank the angel of a woman that carried our miracle baby boy for us, we pray for everyone who struggles to reach this joyous milestone. York Banks Asla, welcome to the world.
Banks also gave a more extensive announcement to People, in which she referenced her difficult fertility struggles.
“We are so excited for our new baby boy bundle of joy. The journey to now has not been an easy process, as I’ve shared before. But there was a beautiful bright light at the end of the tunnel for me and his father, Erik,” she told the magazine.
“As I gaze into the beautiful eyes of my son, I think about all the people who struggle with fertility or carrying a child and continue to pray for them every day. My hopes and dreams are filled with well wishes that they get to feel what my little treasure, York Banks Asla, feels like in my arms.”
It’s poignant that Banks is praying for everyone who can’t have children, because she knows exactly what they’re going through. Back in September, Tyra revealed on her show FabLife that she had undergone IVF procedures and, sadly, experienced some “very traumatic moments.”
But look at them now. It’s been a long journey, but Tyra and Erik have their “little treasure” to cherish every single day. Congratulations to the beautiful family. Pretty soon, Tyra will probably coin the term “baby smize.” We’re just saying.
