It’s been about a month since the release of Taylor Swift‘s album Reputation, and if you like to read between the lines or, simply read the lines of some of the songs, it’s pretty clear she had some things to say about her feud with Kanye West. Whether it’s making clear that “if a man talks sh*t,” she “owes him nothing,” that she’s “got a list of names and yours is in red, underlined,” or that she’s not a fan of “little games,” “your tilted stage” or “the role you me play of the fool, no, I don’t like you,” we’re about 117 per cent sure the “you” in there is Kanye.
But maybe there’s a bit of Kim Kardashian referenced in there too, particularly the “Look What You Made Me Do” video, in which Taylor sits in a bathtub full of diamonds while miming a gun with her hand. That scene caused some to wonder if she was mocking Kim’s traumatic Paris robbery (during which she was tied up at gunpoint and left in a bathtub). That wouldn’t be very nice of Tay, would it?
It seems Kardashian may have thought it was aimed at her, and she took her sweet time — a few weeks, to be exact — to post the perfect throwback clapback on Instagram. The seemingly innocent pic is of herself taking a photo of naked wax figures (including Kanye and Taylor) from her husband’s art exhibit in 2016, which she captioned: “Famous.”
This didn’t sit well with Swifties, who thought it was more shady than harmless, and they went on the offensive. And by “went on the offensive,” we mean they’ve been flooding Kim’s comments section with rat emojis (see for yourself). Don’t get the reference? We’ll explain.
See, the snake has become iconic for both Taylor and Kim’s fan bases. Swift’s critics were the first to use it in the summer of 2016, referring to her as a snake after Kardashian leaked that recording of Tay and Ye talking about his song “Famous,” in which it seemed like Swift approved of the line where the rapper says they had sex. Taylor was branded a liar, and it didn’t look good, so she bided her time, stayed out of the spotlight until, bam! She hit us with her new album.
That’s when Swift reclaimed the snake image, and it empowered Swifties, so much so that Kardashian blocked the use of the snake emoji from her Instagram. Hence, their latest comeback: the rat. Because snakes eat rats. Got that?
Oh, the drama. It probably won’t be too long before Kim blocks the rat and mice emojis too.
