It’s been less than a week now so naturally Grey’s Anatomy fans are still crushed and livid at the show’s mastermind Shonda Rhimes. Die-hard viewers of the long running medical drama are miffed that Rhimes decided to kill off Patrick Dempsey’s character, Dr. Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd, after a decade of service at Seattle Grace Hospital.

Sure Dempsey had been hinting about leaving the show last year (before signing a new two-year contract), but instead of sending McDreamy and his perfectly coiffed hairdo to forever work at a new hospital in a different city (or any other casual character exit), Rhimes killed him off in a tragic car accident on last week’s episode.

Now the fans are striking back at Rhimes. In an attempt to change McDreamy’s deathly fate, a petition has been created on Change.org to get Rhimes to bring Dr. Shepherd back to life.

Part of the petition’s very long and angsty description reads:

“This is important because you cannot have people invest a DECADE into a character and then you just terminate them like that! You have people out here donating blood and organs trying to save lives, wanting to become doctors and all from committing to this television show..just to let us down like this. You’ve destroyed us. COMPLETELY!”

“It’s like you’ve killed the President of Grey’s Anatomy! The Fans are ready to serve you papers and charge you with the Patriot Act! You HAVE TO BRING DEREK BACK! NOW! IMMEDIATELY!

So far nearly 20,000 Grey’s Anatomy fans have signed the petition, with the numbers growing by the minute. The goal is to compile 25,000 names which should be easily attained by the end of the day.

Are you furious that McDreamy is dead? Sign the petition and take a stance by clicking here. This might be “how to save a life.” (Get it? The episode title in which he died?! Le sigh.)
