If you’re going to steal something from under the nose of one of most athletic women on earth, you’d better be very fast or a very smooth talker. This guy, who tried to make away with Serena Williams’ phone at a restaurant earlier this week, was neither.
Tennis star Serena Williams was catching up with a friend over some Chinese food when she noticed a man standing oddly close to their table. No big deal. She’s a star and people get weird around her. She’s used to it. But this particular man made her Spidey senses tingle, and sure enough, after a moment of loitering the stranger grabbed her phone and took off.
Being the take-charge, near-superhuman woman she is, Williams jumped up and chased the man down the street to confront the man and retrieve her phone. You can watch the video surveillance footage here.
“When I got back into the restaurant I received a standing ovation. I was proud… It was a win for the ladies!”
Serena also wrote a highly entertaining post about it on Facebook, recounting the entire heroic event play by play for the world.
You’d think, being the snatching type, the perpetrator would’ve known to ask himself the simple question that determines if a snatching will be successful, which is: are you, the snatcher, faster than the snatchee? If the answer is, “Hell no! You kidding? That’s Serena Williams, the most decorated female tennis player of all time! Just look at her quads!”, then the snatch will likely not go the way you wanted it to.
