Um. Someone on The Bay’s buying team is probably going to get in trouble. The Canadian retailer appears to be selling ‘Make Canada Great Again‘ hats made by The Los Angeles Trading Company. For just $45, you can have your very own adjustable hat with questionable slogan.

The Bay

The description states that the item is a “cotton baseball cap finished with embroidered detail,” but fails to mention that the ’embroidered detail’ echoes a kinda hateful and xenophobic rhetoric made famous by everyone’s favourite American president, Donald Trump.

Of course, not everyone is down with hats tha–some would argue–might imply that Canada needs to go back to a good ol’ place in time where marriage was between a man and woman, people of colour knew their place as well as how to ‘take a joke’, and powerful white men were free to sexually harass women without fear of ‘allegations’.

This isn’t exactly a good look for the store whose famous striped blanket comes with its own dark history; there have been claims that the British used the blanket to spread smallpox to natives (which to be fair, is a claim that The Bay refutes). Still, probably not the best move to align yourselves with the very divisive Trump.

It’s worth it to note, at the time of publishing, the hat went from ‘Sold Out’ to back in stock again. Is this The Bay attempting to respond to the outrage, or are there more Canadian Trump fans than we thought?
