If you’re planning a family beach vacation this summer, spoiler alert: you don’t need to head south to find the perfect spot. That’s right, Canada is full of beautiful beaches from coast to coast.

Here’s a look at some of the best sandy spots, including beaches you might not know about.

Haida Gwaii, Northern BC

WHY IT’S GREAT:

This beach is located at the northern tip of Graham Island, where the rainforest meets the ocean. It’s great for fishing, crab-catching and surfing. The best part? No crowds.

Little Limestone Lake, Manitoba

WHY IT’S GREAT:

Located five hours from Winnipeg, this beach is located in a provincial park with forest along the shore, so it’s ideal for camping and hiking. Note: You’ll need special permission form Mosakahiken Cree to camp. The water at this beach is great for kayaking and swimming.

Bay Beach, Ontario

WHY IT’S GREAT:

This beach is popular with people form the Niagara region and Greater Toronto Area (GTA). It was an amusement park from the late 1800’s until 1989. Now it’s white sandy beaches are a prime location for yoga, spas and lakeside dining.

Havre-Aubert Beach, Quebec

WHY IT’S GREAT:

On an island north of Nova Scotia, this 12km of sandy beach is an inspirational haven for artists…especially sand artists. It hosts one of the world’s best sandcastle contests and the water an be 20 degrees Celsius  in August.

Cavendish Beach, PEI

WHY IT’S GREAT:

This beach is part of Prince Edward Island National Park and consists of miles of white sand, sand dunes, barrier islands, wetlands and forest. It’s the largest trail system in the Atlantic and accommodations include camp, hotels, bed and breakfasts and cottages. It’s also home to Green Gables and LM Montgomery Historical House.
