Are you bored of the same old nine to five desk job? Sick of filing papers and completing mundane reports? If so, listen up. Because we have a job opportunity for you that’s truly out of this world.
The Canadian Space Agency is looking to hire two new astronauts. Which means, with the right resume, you could be the next Chris Hadfield. The job posting is open to the public and just about anyone can apply. But if you want to be seriously considered, there are some qualifications you need to have.
For one, you’ll need a university education in the fields of either engineering, science or medicine. The good news there is that those are actually broad categories, which can range from degrees in computer science, nursing, agriculture and more. The better your education (i.e. PhD vs. Master’s), the further it will take you in terms of consideration.
Because of the nature of the training involved and the toll that zero gravity takes on the body, successful applicants will also need to be in superb physical condition. The ability to swim, for example, is a requirement.
Applications will be reviewed by the CSA over the course of the year. If you manage to make it through the initial screening process, the real trials will begin. These will include determining how well you cope with stress, to gauging your hand-eye coordination.
If you think you have what it takes to be Canada’s next great astronaut, you can check out the official application right here. The last day to apply is August 15.
We’ll see you on the other side.
