Whoever said that all press is good press must have been foreshadowing Cara Delevingne. Because after watching this interview featuring the Paper Towns actress and three hosts from Good Day Sacramento, we think everyone is going to remember her name.
Delevingne, an English fashion model and T-Swift bestie, also happens to be one sarcasm-loving gal. And as anyone with sarcastic tendencies knows, you’re often misunderstood or taken the wrong way when really, you’re just being your amazing, funny self.
Now the whole world can see a prime example of that, thanks to this interview. In it, the hosts ask a series of increasingly perplexing questions, such as whether Delavingne had read the book before taking the project, whether being so busy makes her better at her job, and finally, if she was cranky because she was tired.
Let’s dissect how NOT to do an interview, shall we?
Things get off to a rocky start when one of the hosts refers to Cara as “Carla,” welcoming her via a satellite interview where it’s obvious the actress can’t see anything and that there’s a slight audio delay on her end.
Then the questions start.
“Did you get a chance to read the book, or do you even have time to sit and read?” one host asks.
“Ah, no I never read the book or the script actually, I kind of winged it,” Delevingne answers, before quickly adding, “no of course I read the book, the book’s amazing. John Green is incredible, if you haven’t read his books you should.”
That’s when another host decided to jump in with, “Do you find that it’s easier for you to focus because you’re so busy?”
“Uh, no. I don’t know where that comes from,” she answers, perplexed but still polite enough. In fact, she gives a little laugh and tries to come up with an intelligent answer about loving what she does. Hey, when you ask a weird question, don’t expect a great response, right?
Wrong. Because the interviewers clearly didn’t like the response they got.
“Right. What do you like about Margo, do you have anything in common with her?” one host presses on.
“No, I actually hate her,” Delevingne jokes, before giving a fine enough answer that she’s probably given a thousand times before to reporters too lazy to think of a non-standard question.
It’s at this point that a third host jumps in with a winded question involving his own opinions about the movie, and how he wished he had been that “eloquent” teenager too.
That’s when things got super weird.
“I saw you in London talking about this a couple weeks ago, and you seemed a lot more excited about it than you do right now,” he continued. “Are you just exhausted?
“Oh. Uh, no. I’m still very excited. The premiere was last night. It was an emotional night. It felt like the end of an era,” she attempted to answer. “But I’m not any less excited than I was a couple of weeks ago. Maybe I had a bit more energy? It’s the morning”
“You do seem a bit irritated,” one host continues. “Perhaps it’s just us.”
“Yeah, I think it’s just you,” Delevingne responds. Because really, what else is someone supposed to say at that point?
“Well on that note, we’ll letchya go then, how ’bout that,” the host responds. “Why don’t you go take a little nap. Drink a Red Bull.”
And with that, anything the actress could have said back was cut off by the hosts as they kept talking, so she sits there until the bars come up on the screen. Apparently that was equally offensive to the hosts.
“Oh!! The bars.”
And even THEN the cringe-worthiness doesn’t stop, as the three hosts continue talking smack about the actress and her “mood.”
“But still! You make $5 million for six weeks of work, you can pretend to talk to Good Morning Sacramento with some oomph!” one of them wraps.
Well from where we’re sitting, we’re betting no celebs are going to want to give these hosts some “oomph” anytime soon.
