If you’re a fashion lover, you know the first Monday in May can only mean one thing—the Met Gala. It’s the biggest fashion event of the year that sees models, athletes, musicians and actors strut their stuff up the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s steps on the pink carpet. The event is a fundraiser that benefits the Met’s Costume Institute. This year, the gala was co-chaired by Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele, Harry Styles, Lady Gaga, Serena Williams, and, like every other year, Vogue’s Anna Wintour.

Oh, and you need to be invited by Anna Wintour herself to attend.

The theme of this year’s Met Gala was camp, and we’re not talking about pitching a tent. It’s about stepping outside the boundaries of what society typically expects. “It’s ironic yet sincere; glamorous yet tacky; so bad it’s good; too much and just right,” according to the New York Post.

Here are some of Erica Wark’s favourite looks from the pink carpet.

Lady Gaga

Hands down, Lady Gaga deserves her own category. She showed up in four different looks, after all and she nailed every single one. She was one of the first people to walk the pink carpet and she didn’t disappoint.

Over-the-Top

Katy Perry showed up looking like an actual chandelier, Cardi B brought the drama with a custom gown decorated with 30,000 feathers that took more than 2,000 hours to create, and Zendaya came dressed as Cinderella with her very own Fairy Godmother.

Pink, pink and more pink

Janelle Monae’s custom dress had eyelashes that actually winked, Kasey Musgrave came dressed as Barbie and Elle Fanning’s look was complete with some extra nail art.

Dramatic men

Billy Porter showed up to the Gala being carried by six shirtless men, Jared Leto carried his own head and Ryan Murphy went full on Liberace.
