The exit of two Islanders left everyone in tears on ‘Love Island’

Maybe we should rename it 'Friendship Island.'

The second recoupling of the season took place on Monday’s episode of  Love Island (Monday-Sunday, 9ET on CTV) and left everyone in tears. Literally everyone. Crying about a friend leaving isn’t shocking, but it’s amazing the Islanders weren’t too dehydrated to shed tears. It’s Las Vegas in August! It’s hot! Unfortunately for James and Jeremiah, things cooled right off with Moira and Rachel, leaving the women to choose newbies Calvin and Caleb. At least they’ll always have their personalized water bottles.

JEREMIAH SPEAKS HIS TRUTH

Jeremiah telling Rachel that he was friendzoning her only hours before the recoupling was announced seemed like an even more ridiculous move than the body roll that landed Moira on crutches. But really, if Jeremiah had said nothing, Rachel would have picked him and lost out on the chance to actually find love. In hindsight, Jeremiah is the best.

THE CRYING GAME

Even though James made a last-ditch effort to win back Moira, an idea she surprisingly entertained after ghosting him IRL for two days, she still chose fun and freckled Calvin to be her human crutch. Rachel picked Caleb, who was open to becoming more than friends, leaving James and Jeremiah sharing the elevator down to wherever Islanders go after leaving Love Island. Sure, the girls shed a few tears, but the guys? Sobbing. Literal sobbing. That’s the kind of crying you can do when you didn’t spend 45 minutes attaching fake lashes. The women already have to deal with contouring in 40-degree heat. They can’t throw tears into the mix.

RETURN OF THE MACK

Mackenzie’s jealousy was back and uglier than ever on Monday night. While she’s great at giving advice to the other Islanders, no one seems to be stepping in to tell Mackenzie that she may want to cut Connor some slack. After Mackenzie got upset that Connor gave some of the Islanders sibling-level kisses during Truth or Dare, he took a few hours to think about his feelings. The nerve? Wasn’t it just yesterday that Mackenzie was yelling at James to give Moira space? Connor took his space and then calmly discussed his feelings. Mackenzie said she’s been blindsided by every past breakup and felt that Connor waiting to talk about his feelings was akin to being blindsided. Wouldn’t being blindsided actually be Connor not sharing his feelings and then just ending things?  As Tre said, “How could you be mad at Connor? Look at his beard!”

THE STRIDE OF PRIDEThe vote for which couple was deserving of the first night in the Hideaway went much faster and smoother than any other election will go in the U.S. this year. Cely was finally unleashed onto Johnny, but their pair kept it PG and spent the night talking about their childhoods. Well, they probably did more than talk. Cely is happy she got the chance to wear her new lingerie and feels that she and Johnny are officially the villa’s power couple.
