Disney’s plan to transform animated classics into live-action feasts for the eyes and ears is going swimmingly. First there was Maleficent in 2014, then Cinderella in 2015 and this year, The Jungle Book has vowed audiences. So with the hotly anticipated Beauty and the Beast hitting theatres in 2017, it has a lot to live up to. And based on the first teaser trailer, it’s going to exceed our expectations.
There’s the haunting, iconic music, the stunning sets which appear to be a fantastical combo of gothic and baroque architecture, and a glimpse of
Hermione Granger Emma Watson as Belle, as she walks into the Beast’s castle and that single rose catches her eye.
We hear two voices who may or may not be Ian McKellen and Ewan McGregor (hmm, or perhaps it was Stanley Tucci, we’re not 100 per cent sure) saying, “Look, it’s a girl … what if she’s the one?”). Gah! She is, she IS the one!
Directed by Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Parts 1 and 2), Beauty and the Beast stars Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as Beast, Luke Evans as Gaston, Josh Gad as Le Fou, McKellen as Cogsworth, McGregor as Lumiere, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, Tucci as Cadenza, Kevin Kline as Maurice, and Audra McDonald as Garderobe and holy moly, we can’t wait for March 17, 2017 to be here.
