Maybe you, your family, your friends… ok, everyone you know are big on the Star Wars franchise. Not fanboy-big but fans nonetheless. And just maybe you already downloaded a digital copy or purchased a Blu-Ray of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens earlier this week and have already watched it a couple times. Maybe. And now that you’re back in that Star Wars mindset, you’re wondering how in the name of Han (Sigh. Han.) are you going to be able to wait until December 2017 before Episode VIII hits theatres.
Well, turns out you don’t have to wait that long to get your Star Wars fix (and we’re not just saying you have to rewatch the first seven chapters of the saga). A teaser trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was just released and it’s exactly what we need.
In case you weren’t aware, Rogue One is the first instalment of many upcoming spinoffs being made. It’s meant to exist as a stand-alone movie, set shortly before the events of the original 1977 Star Wars. It stars Felicity Jones (yes, of The Theory of Everything) as Jyn Erso, an orphan with a long rap sheet who joins the Rebellion. Her first mission? Infilitrate the Death Star before its first weapons test. NBD.
Forest Whitaker and Diego Luna join Jones’ Jyn as pre-Luke and Leia rebel fighters. Other cast members include Mads Mikkelsen (yes, we assumed he was a villain too, but apparently not), Alan Tudyk, Wen Jiang, Donnie Yen and Riz Ahmed.
“What will you do if they catch you?” Whitaker’s character asks of Jyn. “What will you do if they break you? If you continue to fight, what will you become?”
What indeed. We need to know!
Rogue One is directed by Godzilla’s Gareth Edwards and hits theatres Dec. 16, just 364 days before Episode VIII will be released. See, patience has its virtues.
