We thoroughly research all the products we feature, and we honestly think they’re great. But just so you know, things you buy from links on this page may earn us a commission. All prices were accurate at publish time.

When it comes to that everyday staple, the blow dryer, it can be hard to know where to begin. Do you go for a diffuser? Various attachments? Infra-red? Ionic technology? What is ionic, anyway? And if your hair’s curly? Or fine? Or in-between? There can be a lot to consider, especially if you use yours on the reg, and it can be easy to get overwhelmed. Luckily, going by other people’s recommendations is always a good place to start.

Here we uncover a few of the best reviewed hairdryers, according to Amazon (and we got you covered, from your basic budget option, all the way to that very fancy luxury purchase). Be prepared to blow away the competition…

CONAIR WATT DRYER

Amazon

For the price of a coffee and your lunchtime sandwich, you could invest in Amazon’s second best-selling hair dryer, the Conair 246RNC 1875 Watt Dryer. Sure, it may sound more like a military jet engine, but don’t let the name fool you. With almost 1,000 5-star customer reviews on Amazon swearing by its effectiveness, it’s nothing to shirk at.

Customers have noted its “tremendous value,” with many describing it as “reliable” and a bargain for the price. It comes with two heat and speed settings for drying, and one cool setting to keep your hard-won styling in place.

With an ergonomic handle and 5 foot cable for convenience, it’s your basic no-frills option. So, it might not have you feeling like you’ve just left the salon, but at this price, it can’t be beat for value. Even if you have a perfectly good blow dryer at home, at a very thrifty $15, it might just be worth getting – if only to find out what all the fuss is about.

WHO IT’S FOR:

Anyone looking for a low-investment option, for say a guest bedroom, travel, for kids, or if you’re simply on a budget.

REVLON ULTRA LIGHTWEIGHT IONIC CERAMIC DRYER

Amazon

For a little more than you’d spend at dinner, this dryer will no doubt be a useful addition to your bathroom, and has the honour of being a top seller on Amazon. With both ionic (a fancy way of saying it’ll keep your hair as static-free as possible) as well as tourmaline (which helps lock in moisture and smooth frizz) technology, the Revlon RV544BLF comes with both concentrator and diffuser, and is apparently 30 per cent lighter than your average dryer.

And you’re sure to find the right fit with its three heat and two speed settings, plus one for cool air to keep your styling in place. Several reviews mentioned it doesn’t overheat as other dryers sometimes do, and like the Conair, was noted for being good value for money. It also comes with a three-year warranty, in case you run into any trouble. So if you’re willing to shell out those few extra bucks to dry your locks, something (or make that, several hundred Amazon reviews) tells us you won’t regret it.

WHO IT’S FOR:

More thrifty types, but who’ll settle for more than your basic no-frills option – it won’t have you feeling salon-ready, but seems like a solid keep-at-home option.

$27

REVLON ONE STEP HAIR DRYER & VOLUMIZER HOT AIR BRUSH

You might have heard about this beauty before — it currently holds the title of Amazon’s best-selling hair dryer. This two-in-one dryer and styler promises to comb, volumize, and dry your hair – all at once. And whilst that might seem like a tall order, the reviews speak for themselves.

This one also boasts almost 1,000 5-star Amazon customer reviews. Many absolutely rave about its “genius” capabilities, like halving styling time and smoothing out normally frizzy locks, while others swear by its volumizing potential. In fact, the brush’s unique oval shape aids in providing volume and lift, especially for longer hair (which can flatten at the roots with its own weight).

With a 6-foot swivel cord for ease, it’ll move as you use it, and comes with tangle-free bristles which helps with brushing through your locks as you’re both drying and styling. The settings are at the bottom of the handle, to prevent accidentally switching off mid-use, along with three heat settings.

It’s sparked some fierce debate on social media (a quick YouTube search will bring up hundreds of video reviews, with mixed verdicts), but with so many Amazon reviews professing its benefits for frizzy, fine, thick, curly and straight locks alike, the consensus seems clear – this one’s a keeper.

WHO IT’S FOR:

Those looking to shorten their morning hair routine, anyone who regularly straightens wavy/curly hair, or anyone with flatter hair looking to create volume without having to visit the salon.

T3 MICRO CURA HAIR DRYER

As with the Conair, you get what you pay for, apparently. Okay, so not many of us are willing, or able, to casually drop hundreds of dollars when a product a fraction of the price will do. But for those who are (or were gifted this gadget, or willing to save for the indulgence), this is one to swear by. It’s only become available in Canada recently, but if our neighbours south of the border are to be believed, the T3 is worth every cent.

It boasts three heat and two speed settings, plus a cool setting to preserve your styling, and a safety feature that automatically turns it off when set down (no more worrying you’ve accidentally set the house on fire). And if reviews are anything to go by, it’ll help lock in moisture (great news for the dry-haired among us), is lightweight, and actually takes the term ‘ionic technology’ seriously, with reviews preaching the taming of previously stubbornly frizzy locks.

It’s also apparently quieter than your average dryer, and due to its more compact size, will easily travel with you to maintain your perfect coif on the go. Its white finish and rose gold-lined detail also don’t hurt a bit, making this more than a functional item, but a style piece to boot. And if you’re not comfy dropping the dollars on this, maybe you can ask for it as a present from someone special – your locks, as well as you, might just thank them for it.

WHO IT’S FOR:

Those looking to treat themselves to a lightweight, portable but also powerful dryer, those looking to make their last ever blow dryer purchase (hopefully), or those in search of a fancy gift.

HOW MUCH?

$300
