The friendzone crashes into the breakup zone on Sunday’s ‘Love Island’

At least we still have the Villa’s Chrissy Teigen and John Legend.

Keeping track of the couples on this season of Love Island (Monday-Sunday, 9pET on CTV) is becoming more difficult than a Zoom math class. Friendzoning, breakups, and random connections inspired by a tweet (a tweet?!) have made the Villa one of the most unpredictable places to stay in Las Vegas and that’s saying a lot.Sunday's episode ended with a cliffhanger during the recoupling ceremony, which saw Justine pick Caleb, the one couple we can still count on. We can still count on Justine and Caleb, right? Don’t break out hearts, Love Island.

SHOUT OUT VIN DIESEL

All of Cely’s problems would be solved if she could go back in time and stop Johnny from cheating with Mercades, but she can’t. So, now she must decide whether to forgive Johnny or explore a relationship with Bennie. This would be so much easier if Vin Diesel walked into the Villa.Cely thankfully has her ladies-who-brunch to lean on and get the same pep talk energy that she’s been dishing out on the daily. Justine is proud of Cely for showing off her backbone with Johnny and we are too. It’s the confidence for us! Bennie is playing the smart and easy game of reassuring Cely that he’s loyal and trustworthy without having to do anything to prove either statement. As for Johnny, he’s making every wrong move by attacking Cely and playing the victim card. Not hot. Johnny says that he can’t imagine anything worse than having to sit in the Villa and watch Cely talk to Bennie and get to know him. Really, Johnny? We can think of something worse and it’s Cely knowing that the world saw you make out with Mercades after pledging your allegiance to her. That is worse. Cely is exhausted and same.

THE FRIENDZONE

The power of Mackenzie is still being felt at the Villa. Although she left days ago, Connor is still under the spell of his ex and isn’t ready to move on. That means his blossoming relationship with Moira is now a wilting flower that is shedding its final petal in the Friendzone. Just because they had no chemistry and didn’t really seem interested in each other at any point doesn’t mean this isn’t still a bummer. We’re allowed to feel our feelings.[video_embed id='2038618']ICYMI: It’s a total ‘Love Island’ shake-up as four Islanders get booted and three new ones sneak in [/video_embed]

THE TWEETS HAVE EYES

Remember last week when a viewer tweeted that Calvin and Laurel appeared to have chemistry? We didn’t see it then either, but apparently Calvin and Laurel did. The tweet was enough to open Laurel’s green and definitely not "brunette" eyes to the fact that she and Calvin have deeper conversations than she does with Carrington. He is a puddle, after all. Laurel is beginning to see the signs in Carrington that she saw in other relationships right before they ended and they’re making her nervous. They’re also making Carrington nervous that she won’t choose him in the recoupling, but not nervous enough that he’s willing to lose sleep and check on Laurel when she’s upset. The man has limits.
