It’s hard to replicate success, right? Yet that’s all anyone seems to be doing nowadays. With all of the remakes and reboots and re-imaginings and retellings out there, it’s hard to be an original. But you can certainly try, and that’s where the trailer for the upcoming Vacation sequel gets all the credit.
In the new clip released Friday, audiences are brought back to the good old fashioned antics of the Griswolds and their family vacation – only now the head of the family is Russ, played now by none other than Ed Helms (The Hangover).
In case you were wondering, he’s the fifth actor to play the part.
Joining him is Christina Applegate (Married With Children) as his wife Debbie, and their two sons. The antics all kick off when Rusty decides he wants the family to recreate his childhood trip to Wally World from decades ago.
“I’ve never even heard of this original vacation,” one of his sons quips.
“Doesn’t matter. The new vacation will stand out on its own,” Rusty shoots back, giving us a taste of the self deprecation to come.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a true Vacation film without Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo, who return as now-grandparents Clarke and Ellen. Leslie Mann is also on board as a now-grown-up Audrey. Also on board? Chris Hemsworth, a.k.a. Thor himself.
And for the ladies (and certain men out there), let us be the first to assure you; we see plenty of Thor’s “hammer.”
Check out the trailer for yourself before Vacation hits theatres on July 29.
