It looks like Blue the lamb is back on the lam.
The seven-month-old animal from Harmony Farm in B.C. developed a health problem that caused him to lose the function of both of his hind legs. His owners, Gerry and Patricia Porter, tried everything to help him, including taking the animal to a chiropractor. But after trying and trying, they were starting to run out of options.
Since Blue was growing up on a facility that raises the animals for their meat, things were looking pretty dire for the little guy. That’s when a retired vet offered the couple a unique idea.
“A retired vet came to board our dog here and said ‘you know, you could try some dog wheels if you can get a hold of any,” Patricia said.
It was genius.
The couple managed to track a set down, and have since created a wheelchair contraption that allows the lamb to move freely. Blue, meanwhile, is thrilled.
“Now he’s at the point where he’ll actually butt the door, anxious to get his wheels on to go,” Patricia said. “Everyday we give him a little bit more space.”
