It’s the hairdo taking the Instagram beauty world by storm, mostly because it’s the easiest thing to do (take that, intricate side braids!). It also has the most adorable name and both girls and guys can rock this precious style so it only makes sense that it’s what every person with hair that has long enough to put up has on their head right now. No, really, look around and you’ll see it.

The “Hun” is everywhere. It’s the best and easiest way to update your updo because you’ve probably been doing it all along. It’s that thing you do with your hair when you’re blowdrying or flatironing it and need to get underneath. That’s right, the half bun.

Here’s how you do it:

  • Give hair texture with dry texturizing spray like drybar’s Triple Sec ($32.50 at Sephora) or Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray ($47 at Amazon). If you don’t have any of the above, you can create instant texture by backcombing or from running figures through your hair over and over again.
  • Create an inverted V on the crown of your hair by sectioning top layers with fingertips.
  • Lock everything together with a ponytail. Make it loose, cause this is not about neatness.
  • Take the hair that is coming out of the ponytail, and make it into a circle around the elastic. This is where you can turn it into whichever shape you like. Have a few bobby pins on hand to keep some hairs in place.

The #hun is also a way for you to get some of the heaviness off your neck in these hot summer months but don’t want it up all the way. It can be dressed up or down, it can be worn on the beach or at an elegant restaurant. Heck, maybe you’ve got it up in a hun right now, as you go through Facebook while watching TV.

With the exception of those with short hair (sorry, pixie people), it works on just about any hair length and texture and can be worn so many different ways. Hair life just got a lot easier.
