Congratulations are in order for Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson, who finally got married this past weekend.
“We are overwhelmed with complete happiness and love having made our eternal commitment,” the newlyweds told People magazine exclusively. “To say ‘I do’ in front of family, friends and, most importantly, our children has been the happiest moment of our lives.”
People has the first wedding photo of the bride, looking gorgeous in a custom Carolina Herrera gown and veil. According to the mag, Simpson’s makeup artist Karan Mitchell chose a romantic palette for her makeup, while her longtime friend and stylist, Nicole Chavez, added Neil Lane diamond earrings to complete the look. Since we don’t have a full shot of Jess in the dress yet, People has a sketch of it along with a board filled with everything that inspired her look on her special day.
Like most brides, Simpson wanted to look and feel her absolute best and healthiest, and girlfriend couldn’t be in better shape. Stunning. While there haven’t been reports of what was on the menu, it’s hard to forget a time when J-Simp was all about deep-fried Oreos, chocolate-covered nachos and ‘slutty brownies’ (please let that have been their wedding cake). Wonder if any of those goodies made the cut?
As for their kids, the timing couldn’t have been better. They are at just the right age to be part of the wedding party as son Ace, 1, served as a ring bearer while daughter Maxwell, 2, was the flower girl.
It may have been a family affair — Jess’ sister, Ashlee‘s son, Bronx, accompanied little cousin Maxi down the aisle; their dad, Papa Joe, officiated the ceremony, and I’m guessing (but could be wrong) that maybe Tina walked down with her eldest daughter? — but among the 250 people in attendance were also some famous faces that included Jessica Alba, Donald Faison and Topher Grace. Are Simpson and Grace still pals from when she guest-starred on That ’70s Show, or do they just run in the same circles because her sister used to date his co-star, Wilmer Valderrama? Either way, we love that Topher was there.
Eric reportedly cried when he recited his vows (as long as it wasn’t from laughter because Jess just let one rip, this is adorable) and Jess flubbed her name so she had to start over (because, of course), but aside from that, it sounds like it was a wonderful affair. They made the whole weekend one giant celebration of their love; they and their loved ones enjoyed a pre-wedding barbecue and some karaoke. Oh, and Eric got to take a few hours off to golf.
Even though we knew it was happening, the festivities were kept on the down-low and there were no cries for attention since, being the 4th of July weekend, it wasn’t the media frenzy it could have been. Clever Jess! This is the second marriage for both Jessica and Eric but four years and two kids later, this couple live a fairly drama-free life and seem like they’re in it for the long haul.
