No matter what issue in the news you might be focusing on right now–drop it. This is way more important.

The internet can’t decide if North America has better toilets than Australia. The debate is currently raging on Reddit, and it all seems to focus on Australian toilet-manufacturer Caroma in light of this commercial:

As you’ll soon find out, people take toilets a lot more seriously than you might have previously believed.

*Warning: some of the comments below contain coarse language*

In their debate, Redditors focused mainly on the most important issues of toilet technology, such as water consumption and environmental friendliness.

“I visited one of my wifes (sic) relatives in Ottawa once, they had installed an Australian toilet because it saves water. On a 6 week holiday there, you can bet I had the most enjoyable shit on that thing whilst humming the national anthem,” one commenter wrote.

You see, one of the differences between Caroma toilets and typical North American models is that Caroma’s variations don’t allow much water to sit in the bowl. While that does save water, there are definitely some downsides, like “skid marks”.

“…the higher water level in American toilets means they get far fewer skidmarks,” one user wrote, adding that toilet brushes are way more common in Australia than North America.

“The high water level also means constant splash backs,” another commenter snapped back.

Australia’s toilets also feature a larger “trapway” than North America’s. In fact, they’re large enough to swallow an entire baseball (which makes us wonder what exactly Australians are eating, but that’s another issue). Many on Reddit noted that in Australia, plungers are almost non-existent while most North American bathrooms have them readily available.

“American living in Oz here. Have just realised that I’ve never had to use a plunger in my three years here. Used to get out that ol’ TP-encrusted bastard at least monthly back home,” another Redditor wrote.

North America tried to make a comeback, praising their toilets for their ability to preserve “unbroken stool”.

“American toilets are superior for one thing. They make your poops super long. Since the water is so high, the there’s less gravitation force applied to the faeces. So yes, while Australian toilets might be a better overall system, an American toilet will always win hands down when it comes to producing a consistent, unbroken stool.”

Er, we guess that’s a win. Strangely, the rotation of the toilet’s swirl was never taken into consideration.
