This is one transit delay that nobody was going to complain about.

OC Transpo driver Dan Stoddard was working his usual route at 1 a.m. when he pulled up to one stop and noticed something strange. A woman was sitting by the side of the road who was half naked and looked visibly distressed. To top things off, she wasn’t getting on the bus.

“At one o’clock in the morning, when it’s the only bus that drives by, if you’re not coming out, clearly there’s something wrong,” he said.

Instead of closing up his doors and continuing on, Stoddard convinced the woman to board the bus and asked her if everything was alright.

Long story short: she wasn’t. The woman said she had been abused–both verbally and physically–and didn’t know where to go. At this point, Stoddard had heard enough. He closed the doors, called 911 and waited for emergency services to arrive.

Even though the gesture caused a lengthy delay, one of the other passengers later commended the driver on Facebook, where the post has been shared more than 7,000 times.

We imagine that after all this, a nice raise is waiting for Stoddard at his next stop. You can learn more about the incident in the video above.
