Sad news, people: Camila Cabello and Matthew Hussey have broken up. The couple, who always managed to keep a pretty low profile, dated for over a year and a half, but sadly they’ve been done for a while.

“Camila’s relationship with Matthew had run its course and they decided to break up about a fortnight ago,” a source close to the singer told The Sun. “It was a mutual decision to end things. But they have spent a lot of time together over the last year and a half and want to stay friends despite going their own way.” The insider added that, naturally, the chemistry Camila and Shawn Mendes share in their latest collaboration is only “going to fuel rumours that she and Shawn have become more than just pals though.”

Because, yes, the timing of Camila and Matthew’s breakup comes on the heels of the release of Cabello and Mendes’ steamy song “Señorita,” and now many people want the heat from that video to translate to real life. Fans were already eating up the chemistry the two singers shared in the video and now it’s only gotten more traction since news of Camila and Matthew’s split broke. But Cabello and Mendes have been friends for years, so any rumours about them being more than friends are just that. Now, if things eventually heat up between Camila and Shawn, so be it, but let it be known, he’s not the reason she and Matthew split.

Cabello and Hussey began dating in early 2018 but were only photographed together for the first time willingly this past February, at the Vanity Fair Oscars party. When asked about the dating coach by Billboard, Cabello explained she doesn’t want to be famous for who her boyfriend is, telling the mag, “I know that it would be a lot more interesting for people if I posted more about my private life or was involved in the gossip or whatever. I just don’t like it. I just want to be a good artist. I don’t want to be a great celebrity. I’m not!” Camila did, however, open up a little more later in the year, telling Marie Claire late last year: “He’s so similar to me. In person, we’re just weird and silly and stupid together. He makes me the happiest I’ve ever been in my life.”

Well, looks like Camila will have to find happiness in other ways now, and what better way than celebrating with her newest hit track? “Señorita” is sitting at #1 in iTunes Canada’s Hot Tracks and #2 on the sales chart, just behind Drake’s “Money in the Grave.” The music video for “Señorita” gained 26 million views in its first 24 hours on YouTube and is sitting at over 93 million views as of press time.
