Sure it’s called Jersey Shore: Family Vacation, but it’s far from just sand, selfies and sunshine. Ahead of the season three premiere, the show’s leading ladies made headlines for travelling to Washington, D.C. with matching “Free Sitch” t-shirts in a bid to arrange an early release for Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino.
Who knew that Snooki, JWoww, Deena Cortese and Angelina Pivarnick were so political?

ICYMI: The Situation and his brother Marc were sentenced to eight months in prison (and two years of supervised release) in early October 2018 for tax evasion. Sorrentino’s sentence began in January, and though he only has twenty-odd days left to serve, his co-stars are bound and determined to get their Big Daddy Sitch back. The ladies posed for photos outside the White House, sporting homemade signs that read “Could I Come in, Donnie?” and “Free Sitch.”
The Jersey Shore girls seem to be following in the footsteps of fellow reality-star-turned-social-justice-warrior Kim Kardashian West. Kim K has been putting in the work advocating for prison reform in the United States and she’s seen unprecedented success. The lawyer-to-be has been meeting with President Donald Trump and reportedly helped free dozens of inmates as part of a campaign to reduce sentences for drug possession. Sorrentino’s “situation” isn’t the same by a long stretch, but his friends seem to be just as passionate.

The season three premiere showed the emotional responses from the rest of the cast when Sorrentino reported to prison in January. Although The Situation has been far from private about the whole ordeal—he livestreamed his car ride to the prison and tweeted out his mailing address—it was the first time we saw the impact it had on his closest friends. Although, in an episode that also included Ronnie checking into rehab, Deena welcoming her first child and Snooki finding out she’s pregnant with baby number three, the prison trek was just one of many dramas to unfold. But hey, that’s why we watch, right?
