The Kardashians just signed a huge new TV deal

When one door closes, another one opens. And for the Kardashian-Jenners, that door is made of solid gold. The world’s most famous reality family just signed a huge new TV deal, which means even though Keeping Up With the Kardashians is ending, this family isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
During its Disney Investor Day presentation on December 10, Hulu (a part of Disney) announced that it has signed a multi-year content deal with the family. Under that deal Kim, Khloe, Kourtney, Kris, Kylie and Kendall will create new content, some of which will hit the streaming service in late 2021. “Excited to announce our new multi year partnership with Hulu and Star and what’s to come in 2021,” Kris Jenner tweeted following the official announcement.
While details of what kind of content the family is plotting out next are being kept under wraps for now, the timing is pretty perfect considering KUWTK is scheduled to wrap early next year with the 20th and final season on E!. “It is with heavy hearts that we’ve made the difficult decision as a family to say goodbye to Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” the family shared on social media in September. “After what will be 14 years, 20 seasons, hundreds of episodes and numerous spin-off shows, we are beyond grateful to all of you who’ve watched us for all of these years – through the good times, the bad times, the happiness, the tears, and the many relationships and children. We’ll forever cherish the wonderful memories and countless people we’ve met along the way.”
While it’s unclear where the Kardashians will land in Canada as a part of this new deal, it seems pretty certain the content will trickle into the country somewhere. That’s because this week Disney also announced the launch of Star, AKA its international version of Hulu. Star debuts as a subsection of Disney Plus on February 23 next year, so any content that isn’t attached or sold to another Canadian broadcaster that comes from Hulu and FX will live there. That could include the Kardashians.
“Announced today at Disney’s Investor Day, Kris, Kim, Kourtney, Khloe, Kendall and Kylie will create global content, which will stream exclusively on Hulu in the U.S. and in multiple territories on Star internationally,” was all the Mouse House would say in a statement. “Expected debut is late 2021 and additional details will be shared when available.”
It’s also unknown just how lucrative this deal is. However, Disney Plus also announced it’s upping its streaming service price by a dollar a month beginning next March, and Variety reports that the company is spending $8 to $9 billion on Disney content alone in the fiscal year 2024. (The company plans to release 100-plus new titles every year across all of its brands including Hulu, Marvel, Pixar, National Geographic and ESPN.) Given that, it’s safe to say the Kardashian deal is pretty darned lucrative indeed.
In 2017 the Kardashian-Jenners signed what wound up being their final deal with E!, which kept them pumping out their beloved show, produced by Ryan Seacrest, for three more years. At the time, an insider revealed the deal was “below $100 million.” Considering how much the family’s stock has risen since then (not to mention the sisters’ ongoing side-hustles and other profitable ventures), something tells us this deal is worth much, much more than that.
