At the end of Guardians of the Galaxy, we learned that Peter Quill’s estranged father was a bit of a jerk. Of course, the guy who told Peter that was Yondu, who wasn’t exactly sunshine and rainbows, so Peter, and the audience, had to take his opinion for what it was worth. In other words, not much. But from that final scene, we guessed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was going to feature Peter’s dad. And when Kurt Russell signed on to the project, it was pretty much a given that he would be playing the elder Quill.
Set to Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain,” the newest trailer is more story-heavy than the previously released ones. And while the first sneak peeks were heavy on Baby Groot, this one showcases the whole gang, including the newest Guardians: the aforementioned Yondu, Nebula and Mantis.
Their latest nemesis — aside from a toothy, tentacle-y monster — is Ayesha, a high priestess who wants to “cleanse the universe” of its weaknesses. The Guardians aren’t down with that and are ready to save the galaxy once again.
Awesome, and we’re totally going to see the movie based on that alone, but it’s the final scene that we’ve all been waiting for: where Star-Lord and his father, Ego, come face to face. Hmm, if what Yondu had to say about him is right, the name is kind of perfect.
